My Apartment!!

So finally I have completed some of the final touches to my apartment, so I took some pictures to show everyone back home how I am living this year.  I live by myself in the middle of the city, right above a local restuarant and bar.  It is very convenient because I literally can walk out my door and then I am downtown in the city!!  Tons of shops, cafes, and restaurants all over.  Anyway, I am very happy with the location and how it has turned out!!  I will probably add one more chair to the mix, but not a major concern right now.  So here is my place!!

So I got a little creative and created a collage on my wall of pictures and some artwork I have collected over the past 2 years.  Had some Picaso paintings from Barcelona and Van Gogh paintings from Amsterdam that I added.  Also pictures of my babies, friends and family back home!!  I think it turned out pretty nice!!  And something innovative that I thought of myself...:)

My bed kind of sits in its own "nuk" in the corner.  And if I don't want my bed to show, I just cover them with the curtains.

My mini-kitchen, but it's good enough for me.  It gets the job done anyway!!

And now for my favorite part of the room, this would be what's next to my bed and what I always looks at before I go to bed and when I wake up...

It's a picture of my babe!!  I love him and miss him sooooooooooooooooo much!!  So just so you know, you are always by my side!!  Love you!!

And I want to wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JULIA!!!!  Hope you have had a great day!!!  We will celebrate when you come to visit America this summer!!  Can't wait.

Today was a tough morning session.  Henna and myself pushed each other and went hard.  Then we hit the weight room for an hour.  Still have tonight's practice at 7.30 with the team.  I am looking forward to my first weekend off this Saturday.  Yep that would be my first day off since I've been here.  Some rest will feel nice!

Well that's all for now...talk againsoon!

Games, Games, Games

So the last 3 days we have played a total of 4 games.  It's been busy and some good action for us!!  This past weekend we played in the Uman Cup and only played against div. II teams.  Our first match on Saturday was against KFUM Sundsvall, a div. II team with about 4-5 former players from the damligan team the Saints.  So they were not going to be the "typical" div. II competition.  But we played a good game and won by 20 pts, 88-68.  For me this game was a little difficult and it took awhile for me to get into the swing of the game.  Coming off the plane Wednesday, there was doubt about it that jet-leg still lingered in my legs.  I ended the game with 11 pts, but who knows what it could of been after ALL the missed lay-ups I had.  Mackey played well with 20pts, Ida had 15 and Johanna shot 100% from the 3pt line for 12 points.  As a team we shot 50% from the 3pt line and 60% from the field.

Our next game was against IKSU.  We won that game 93-38 and I finally felt like I was getting back the feeling of the game.  I didn't play that much minutes but I still ended up with 19pts.  Henna had a great match (not fouling out in the first half) and ended with 17pts, and Janette had 14.  But was nice about that game was everyone was able to score and a solid team effort!

Saturday night we went over to Julia's for her birthday fika with the team.  We had a special guest...Shannon Daily.  A former Umeå Comet and roommate.  She lives in Sundsvall now and was playing with the team we played earlier.  It was fun to have another American in the mix and man, I sure do miss that girl and her amazing humor!!  It was a great night spent with the team, and my favorite was of course JULIA'S APPLE PIE!!

Sunday we played one game against KFUM Jämtland and won 38-100.  And yes we broke 100!  This game we really pushed ourselves to fast break and to get lay-ups off the break.  We really wanted to focus on transition and scoring on the break.  I think we did a good job of that!  Once again, everybody on the team was able to score!  I ended up with 19 pts, Henna had 17, Johanna had 17 and shot 100% again from the 3pt line, Mackey had 14 pts and Ida had 11, which concluded the 5 people in double digit scoring.  It was a great weekend for us, but with fairly easy competition.

So yesterday concluded our 4 game series.  We traveled up to Luleå to play their damligan team and let me tell you...what a WAKE UP call we had there.  After a successful weekend and solid performances by many, Luleå gave us a run for our money.  They didn't even compare to what we played against before.  Luleå is a very strong, physical and solid team.  Their team has been playing together all summer and most of them have been together for the last 3 years, and have some veteran players.  We, on the other hand, have not had that privilege and especially with me just getting here on Wednesday, our weaknesses were exposed.  Maybe we were fatigue and tired, I don't know??  But I do know that they are not 45 pts better than us.  We ended up losing the game 38-83.  We looked scared when we had the ball and instead of fighting back and showing some pride, we kind of back downed and didn't respond.  Well the important thing from this game is that we can really learn some things!!  And now we know that we have to come together and fight even harder in games like this.  Especially against teams like this.  So there is no doubt in my mind that we will do better next time we face Luleå.  We have to!!

We got home late last night around 12.30.  All my body wanted to do was SLEEP.  I slept in to 11.30 and if it wasnt for Mackey texting me, I probably would of slept in past lunch.  But now I finally feel more rested and once my legs feel a bit lighter, I'll be good to go!!  I'm just now starting to feel like I am getting back into the swing of things again!  This weekend we will be off from basketball, then the following weekend we will open up our season against 08.  Then season will be in full swing!

Today I finished up some final touches on my apartment.  It's starting to look like a real home to me!!  So that makes me feel better!!  Just a couple more things and then I am satisfied with it!  Soon I will post some pictures so you guys can check it out!!  Tomorrow I get to hangout with Maria and see little Oliver...looking forward to that.  Well good night for now...stay tuned...

Uman Cup

Coming soon...post update.

Tomorrow I promise to give you a full report on the games this past weeked.  We won all 3 games this weekend and tomorrow we will go up to Luleå to play.  I will let you know how the games went here soon.  I am exhausted right now after the 3 games in 2 days and I don't have the mental power.  But maybe tomorrow on the bus it will be a different story.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Umeå

Cold, rainy, gloomy....yep I must be back in Umeå.  The weather today has been COLD and very wet.  No fun when your riding bike.  But some exciting news, I got my car today!!  So you know what that means??  I am driving to practice!!  Haha.  I have never heard of the name of this brand before so it must be an european brand of some sort....it's a Renault Clio, and it's black.  So I plan to still ride my bike for a bit longer until the weather gets too unbearable.

Well what else is new since I got here??  Really not that much has happened.  On my trip over I seemed to of picked up a cold of some sort.  So I haven't been feeling the best.  My nose has been stuffy and I cough a bit.  It almost feels like a weight on my chest when I breathe.  I worked out in the morning practice yesterday and had a hard time breathing, so in the evening I took it easy and didn't participate in the playing or running.  The team actually ran the beep test and did a great job!  Very impressive.  Today I am feeling a little better.  We had 8.20 in the morning practice, and I completed the entire practice.  It was some shooting and some defensive work, then we ended with some 3 on 3.  After we hit the weight room.  We will have another practice tonight at 5.00 for an hour.

Tomorrow we play two games, vs. Sundsvall (10am) and IKSU (4pm).  They are both div. II teams and we play Jämtland on Sunday (also another div. II team).  Monday we travel up to Luleå to play them on their home court.  So that's 4 games in 3 days.  They will be our last practice games before our first game of the season on Oct. 9th in Norrköping vs. 08.

So sorry it's a bit of a boring blog post.  Not much happening right now.  I am still trying to catch up with my sleep and plan to take a little nap now.  That's one thing this weather is perfect for...NAPPING!!  I have done a lot of unpacking but still have some work on that.  Once I've completed that, I will try to post some pictures of my new place.  I will also have to post some pictures still from Mike and I's Vegas trip!!

The hardest thing so far being back is missing my loving boyfriend Mike.  This is going to be challenging for us, but what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger right!!  I am not going to lie, this is really hard...and I am only 2 days in.  And it just feels different this year than any other year I have been here before.  I just know what I have back home is something sooooo special and he means the world to me.  Love you babe!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  I will keep you posted on our games and how they go this weekend!!

I'm Back in Sweden

Just landed about an hour ago in Arlanda, Stockholm.  So here I am back for my fourth year in Sweden.  I can't believe it's my 4th year.  Time really does fly fast.

Last night...or I guess Monday night (back in America) my night was perfect with Mike.  He took me out to dinner at Sullivan's Steakhouse (a really nice restuarant) in downtown Denver.  Everything was great and I know these next 3 months are going to be hard, but I am confident and feeling great that Mike and I will make it through this and then be able to spend the rest of our lives together!!  I can't wait for that moment.  I LOVE YOU BABE!!

But for now, it is back to buisness in Sweden.  My flight for Umeå leaves in about 2 and half hours and this waiting now seems to be the longest part of the trip.  3 flights and 2 days later...I will finally be back in Umeå and getting back together with the team.  It will also be nice to see some of my friends again!  It has been 4 months that I have been gone now.

Tomorrow it is my first practice in the morning and then a second practice later that evening.  This weekend we will play 3 games vs. division 2 teams, in the Uman Cup and then travel to Luleå on Monday to play the Damligan team Luleå.  First weekend back and getting right into it.  Playing right away will be really good for me and I am excited to play with the team.

Now my biggest challenge will be to is fight this jet-leg off.  After 3 years I still have no good solution for this.  I didn't sleep very much at all on the plane, so I am running on NO SLEEP.  I assume I will take a nap after lunch, even though I should hold out and wait until the evening.  But a little nap shouldn't hurt and getting settled into my new apartment will only take a little time.

Well there is a quick update.  My day is just beginning here while in America all my friends and family are fast asleep.  What a crazy 8 hour difference.  Hopefully I will give a better update when I am situated and starting up the ordinary life here.  Take care everyone and thanks for all the warm wishes!!

I Love Him!

This weekend was great in Las Vegas and I am so glad I got to spend it with Mike!!  I can't wait to live the rest of my life with him and I love him dearly.  I am going to miss him sooooo much and today is my last day with him :(  I hope the 3 months goes by fast because I know it's going to be hard.

The wedding was a lot of fun!!  Fun times with some great friends of Mike's.  It was a great view of Vegas from the reception.  The reception was held at a suite in the MGM Grand.

Today I am packing up and getting ready to leave tomorrow.  I feel a little rushed, but I will get it all done.  Then I am meeting my dad downtown for lunch and to spend some time with him!!  Tonight it will be some goodbyes and the hardest goodbye will be tomorrow morning when Mike drops me off at the airport.  My flight leaves 10.25 and I arrive in Stockhom 7.45 Wednesday.  Land in Umea at 12.25.

I can't believe how quick the time has gone by.  I will try to blog again here soon with some more pictures from the wedding.  Take care everyone!!

Viva Las Vegas!!

Tomorrow I leave to join Mike in Las Vegas for our final weekend together before I head out to Sweden on Tuesday.  Mike is going down today for the bachlor party, so I will come down tomorrow and get there in time for the rehearsal dinner and then of course the wedding on Saturday.  Pretty exciting to go to Vegas also!!  I haven't been there in 5 years, last time was my senior year in college for spring break.  I'm really looking forward to seeing all the wonderful sites Vegas has to offer, and Mike and I even plan to attend a show one night.  The ceremony for the wedding will take place out on a golf course and then the reception will be at the MGM Grand Hotel!!  I have a feeling it's going to be very beautiful.

Yesterday I had a very productive day.  I deep-cleaned my car and organized all the stuff that I had collected over the summer.  Then I moved over to my clothes and organized my suitcases.  I'm trying to take over less than I ever have before.  I have to obtain a few goodies for some friends over in Sweden, but nothing too crazy.  Just some chocolate chips, so Sophia can make American cookies....and I guess that's the only request I've gotten.  So please quickly make a request if you want something!  I also packed for Vegas and I'm good to go.

So now kind of begins the good-byes over here.  It feels a bit different since I know that I am coming home for Christmas.  I know that will be here before I know it.  Especially with season starting in 2 weeks once I get there!!

Well I have some stuff to get done today and then I have to give Mike a ride to the airport.  Then I will go workout myself and then coach a workout!  Then over to Kellie's for the night, because she is giving me a ride to the airport on Friday.  So I probably will not be blogging again until after my trip and I get home Sunday night.  SOOOOOO everyone have a great weekend!!!!!

Oliver is Here!!

Welcome to the world Oliver!!  Finally he decides to make an appearance!!  My good friends Maria and Kalle in Sweden had their sweet little boy on September 10th after almost everybody guessed wrong on the date.  He just didnt want to come out for awhile!! :P  My was guess Aug. 31, but obviously I was WAY off!!

I am so excited to meet him when I get there!!  I can't believe I am leaving in one week from today.  The time has gone by so fast.  I thought it seemed so long, but now the time is almost here.  I am excited to get back to a team that has been working hard and doing some good stuff!  But also this year is going to be one of the hardest goodbyes so far.  But if time conitnues flying by, three months will be fast...especially during season.

Now it's the continued days of working out.  Friday I will leave to meet Mike in Las Vegas for our last weekend together before I leave.  One of his good friends from college is getting married there.  It is going to be great to spend some quality time with Mike on this mini-vacation!!  He won't have any basketball he has to attend to!!

I heard a lot of positive things about this past weekend in Ostersund from my team.  Losing by 10 pts to Sallen and 08...it is really not that bad since they are some of the top teams in the league.  And congratulations on the 20 pt victory over Lindigo.  I hope when I get there I can only help and make us even better!!

Last night I made a little Swedish dinner for my friends Amie and Jason.  Since I have been staying with them over the summer, I promised I would make them dinner sometime.  So the time came last night and I thought what a perfect idea and give them a taste of Sweden!!  So I made meatballs with potatoes and for dessert kladkakka.  It was a very interesting experience considering I have never made either one.  The meatballs were a little crumbly, I couldnt get them to stay in their ball form.  But they still tasted allright.  I think I put too much flour in the kladkakka because it didnt turn out right at all.  We were still able to eat it though.  Overall, it was a semi-successful dinner!  But I am no pro when it comes to cooking Swedish cuisine.  Maybe I should practice more.

So the goodbyes begin over here!  But soon the hellos will happen over there!!  Take care everyone!!

Rockies Game!

Yesterday my dad and I went to the Rockies game vs. the Reds.  My dad is a die-hard Reds fan, so I knew it would be a fun game to watch with him.  The Rockies have been "red hot" winning their last 6 games coming into this game, and beating the Reds 3-0 in this series.  The Reds have had the best record in the National league and are leading their division by 6 games or so.

But after yesterday, the Rockies swept the Reds and extended their winning streak to 7 games after their 6-5 win over the Reds.  My dad was not too happy with the outcome...when I mentioned to him, "what do you think about that game?"  His only response was "Well it doesn't matter because the Reds are in the play-offs and the Rockies aren't."  (with a bitter sound in his mouth).

Another interesting story at the game.  When we got to the game, we found some people sitting in our seats in the 18th row.  They said they couldnt get tickets together so they wondered if we could take their seats two rows up.  Sure we said, because they were 2 rows up and closer to the field...plus we didnt mind helping out this family.  Well later in the 5th inning, a foul ball comes flying towards us and hits the boy that was sitting in our orginal seats.  I have never been that close to a foul ball before in my life, and here I would of probably touched the ball if we were in orginal seats.  Still pretty cool though.  I ended up dropping my phone in excitement of maybe catching this ball!

The weather was nice!!  HOT!  Lucky after about 5 innings the shade came to our seats.  The Rockies were losing after the first 2 innings 5-0 but fought their way back slowly each inning and got the lead finally in the 8th inning.  GO ROCKIES!!

Our seats were the 16th row on the 3rd base line!

A not so happy Dad...haha!!

So now it's Friday and the end of the week has made it here.  The weekend awaits us!!  Today I will workout and then train the HS girl.  Tomorrow I will also do another workout with her.  They want to do 3 practices a week, so that gives me a little more work which is nice!  Mike and I will head over to Jay and Kellie's house this Saturday for a little get-together!  Kind of the last "gathering" for all of us before I leave in less than 2 weeks.  It's a people of Walmart theme, so we have to get creative on some outfits.  Should be some good pictures after this weekend!

This week I got Mike a little present...

This picture framed and a special message to him...just describing how much I love him!!!  This is actually our first picture we took together.  It's in San Diego at the Padres game!!  Who would of guessed 3 months later, still doing great!!    Love you babe!!

Alright have a great weekend everyone!!

And good luck to my team the Comets in Ostersund playing their first games of preseason!!  Kick some butt guys!!

Mackey Arrives in Sweden!

So today Katie Mackey arrived to Umea, Sweden around 12.25.  Yep that is right for some of you who probably didnt know, but Mackey from Fort Lewis is going to be my teammate this year for the Umea Comets.  So it's going to be kind of neat experience to have another fellow Skyhawk with me out on the court.  I have never played with Mackey before, I have only coached her.  In fact, when I was the assistant basketball coach at Fort Lewis, I helped recruit her on the team!!  She is an extremely athletic player, has a great shot, and can run for days.  She is a taller guard, so she does have the ability to rebound and play solid defense.  She has also played on a very successful college team, runners-up in the National Championship.  And that is what I like the most about her, she knows how to win and will find ways to WIN!!  Just what we need.  I am looking forward to getting back and playing with my new teammates.

Mackey is not the only new teammate this year.  Also joing the team is Henna Koponen from Finland, Janett Perv from Estonia, and Ida Assa from Lulea.  I know there are a few others as well that are helping out with practice.  And possibly returning to the team is Madde Malmbom from Sundsvall.  Henna played 4 years in America at Coker College, a division II school out on the east coast.  So it will be nice to have 3 players on the team with collegiate experience!  Returning from last year is Caro Siegfelt, Julia Hamre and Johanna Lundstrom.  So I really think we are stronger than the past 3 seasons I have been here.  I am so excited to get back and start playing.  I know the team is traveling to Ostersund this weekend to play against a couple of teams in the Damligan in the KFUM tournament, so I wish them much luck!!  GO GETT'EM GIRLS!!

I had a great workout today!!  I ran to the park, did some good sprints, and ran back from the park.  Tonight it will be shooting with Mike hopefully!!  Still getting prepared to head over...which will be in 2 weeks from today.  The time is going by fast!

Keep having a great week everyone!!

TAKE CARE!

A Calm Weekend

This weekend was pretty calm and relaxing!!  I am house-sitting for my friends Amie and Jason who traveled to Texas for the weekend.  So that involves watching their 14 month old great dane, Parker.  So I've had a house to myself and it's been nice!!  Mike came over Friday night, and we just watched some tv and too it easy.  Saturday I slept in (except for the 5am dog feeding and potty break), worked out during the day (some running in the park), and made some dinner.  Mike and I went downtown to meet up with his coaching partner Adam and his wife Emily.  It was a nice night together with everyone!!  Today has also been calm, just more sleeping and lounging on the couch.  The best part was I got to hangout with Mike all day for the first time in a long time, and it was greatttt!!  I love that guy!!

So this week looks to be very uneventful.  My main goal will be to workout and probably workout some more.  I will have two sessions coaching an individual workout, with the high school girl that I started with last week.  Then Thursday it will be the Rockies game with my dad.  The Rockies will be playing my dad's favorite team, the Reds.

Well I'm pretty boring right now, so that's all I have for now.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

KRAM!!

TGIF!!

FRIDAY!!  Thank goodness it's Friday!!  Finally the weekend is almost here!  Labor Day weekend is a holiday over here in America, and I am so excited because finally Mike will have a day off on Sunday to spend with me!!  I am looking forward to that.  In two weeks from today, we will be traveling to Las Vegas together for a friend of Mike's wedding.  So that will be a nice final trip for us before I head over to Sweden.  It's getting closer and closer.

I received a phone call the other day from VK newspaper in Sweden.  They called and asked me some questions about why I am coming over soo much later.  Then he asked me about the team and everything.  I thought it was going to be an article on our upcoming season and the team, but it turned out to be article about me almost leaving the Comets and staying in America.  Regardless, the article was good and it talks about how I've fallen in love and that this will be my final year in Umea.  It's bittersweat really.  It's something that has been a part of my life for the past 3 years (soon to be 4 years) that I've enjoyed, but at the sametime I'm excitd to start a new life back in America.  Anyway, I super excited to get back to Sweden and start playing basketball, but my family, boyfriend and friends will be missed at the sametime.

well anyway, here is a link to the article.  Family and friends here...go to google translate http://translate.google.com/#sv|en| if you want to see it in english.
